Toyon (Heteromeles arbutifolia)

Beautiful evergreen large shrub has leathery glossy dark green leaves, umbels of small white flowers and bright red ornamental berries in late fall and winter. Also known as Christmasberry it flowers attract bees and makes a rich a dark honey. Birds love the abundant berries, which are an important winter food source. Great planted as hedge, specimen or on a bank. Tolerates drought. Grows 8-20ft tall. Zones 7-9.
