Pettingill apple tree is a very low chill tree which ripens late September into October in Southern California coastal climate. Pettingill apple tree was discovered as a chance seedling by Clark Pettingill in 1949, in Seal Beach a small beach town just south of Long Beach. Large fruit with red flush over green skin. Flesh crisp and juicy with good sugar-acid balance. Pettingill apples are enhanced after several weeks of cold storage. Recognized as a great pie apple.
