Chayote (Sechium edule), also known as mirliton, choko, tayota, chocho (Jamaica), and chuchu (Brazil), is an edible plant belonging to the gourd and squash family, Cucurbitaceae.   It is a perennial vine that produce softball sized fruits that are similar n flavor to zucchini, but store like a winter squash.  They each have one giant seed inside, from which they are propagated from (and the seed is edible)

The vine tips are also edible.  Chayote needs something to grow up and will engulf and a mature tree, take over a fence, or a garage.  They die back each year and a second year vine can produce well over 100 chayote with cool soil and a good place for it to climb.
