Persimmon (Diospyros kaki)

This most widely grown fruit in Asia is a great late season gourmet treat!

Extremely ornamental trees have very large glossy bright green leaves that turn gold through crimson in late fall. Bright orange fruits hang on tree long after leaves have fallen. Pest free and easy to grow, tolerates many soil types as long as well drained. Fruits ripen in fall and are very sweet with soft pudding like flesh. They are delicious eaten fresh dried and cooked making a great persimmon pudding. Trees bloom late, and are very reliable producers. Persimmons grow 15-20 feet but can be kept smaller with pruning. All varieties produce fruit without pollination and are seedless, unless pollinated by Chocolate, which has male flowers. On Lotus rootstock. Zones 7-11.
