Beech (Fagus spp)
Beautiful hardy long lived trees produce the famous beechnuts that are eaten roasted as well as ground into flower for breads. Were pressed for oil back in the 19th century for cooking and lamp fuel. Also well known as a feed for both domestic animals and wildlife. Much planted outside their natural range in the US, Europe and New Zealand for their beauty as a shade or landscape tree, for reforestation and for food.
